Home Preparations for Winter Should Include Furnace Maintenance
We don’t have to tell you that the cold and snow of winter came early this year, however, there’s still time to prepare before winter really hits. In this post, we will list a number of ways you can increase your home’s energy efficiency while also making sure you stay warm and comfortable.
- Replace your furnace filter*
- Have your furnace properly tuned*
- Have an energy audit performed
- Install thermal curtains
- Install door sweeps
- Keep your vents unobstructed and fully open
- Winterize your windows and doors
- Have your roof inspected
- Insulate and properly seal your attic
- Install a smart thermostat and set it for maximum efficiency and comfort
Replace your furnace filter.* One of the most important, and easiest, things you can do to prepare for winter is to check your filter to make sure it’s clean and ready for the frigid months ahead. Your filter prevents dust, dirt, and other debris from making its way into your HVAC system. However, when not regularly replaced, they become blocked, and actually impede air flow. Quality filters are not too expensive and easy to change. If you have any questions, let us know!
Have your furnace properly tuned.* Having your furnace tuned by a professional HVAC technician before winter hits is an excellent way to identify any issues and ensure your furnace is running as efficiently as possible. The technician will clean out dust, dirt, and debris, replace broken or worn-down components, as well as lubricate your furnace’s moving parts.
